The Changwon District Prosecutors' Office special investigation team (led by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Ji-hyung) conducted a search and seizure of the party office located in Yeouido, Seoul, that morning.
The prosecution reportedly carried out the search to secure nomination materials related to former National Assembly member Kim Young-sun during the 2022 by-election. The prosecution had recently requested related documents from the People Power Party’s central office but was refused on the grounds that the documents were confidential.
Earlier, from the 18th to the 21st, the special investigation team summoned members of the People Power Party’s Candidate Management Committee during the by-election to the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office for witness questioning. The prosecution also plans to summon for questioning Yoon Sang-hyun, a People Power Party lawmaker who was the chairman of the Candidate Management Committee at the time, and Lee Jun-seok, then leader of the People Power Party and member of the Reform New Party, as they are considered necessary for the investigation.
A People Power Party official told reporters on the day, "It seems there are more materials requested by the prosecution besides the evaluation documents related to lawmaker Kim Young-sun," adding, "It appears they want to thoroughly review all the matters mentioned by Mr. Myung Tae-gyun."
