‘Taste, Style, and Excitement of Geochang’ Geochang Grand Festival
Proceeding in the order of achievements and discussion on development plans
The Geochang Cultural Foundation in Gyeongnam announced on the 27th that it held the ‘2024 Geochang Hanmadang Grand Festival Evaluation Report Meeting’ at the county office’s main conference room, attended by about 60 people including County Governor Gu In-mo, County Council Member Kim Hyang-ran, Kim Chil-seong, Chairman of the Geochang Citizen’s Day Commemoration Event Promotion Committee, the Geochang Cultural Foundation, auditors and staff, related organizations and groups, and the service agency.
The evaluation report meeting was held to share the progress, achievements, and issues of the ‘2024 Geochang Hanmadang Grand Festival’ and to discuss future development directions. The meeting proceeded in the order of the Geochang Cultural Foundation’s general report, evaluation reports by departments and organizations, Q&A, and discussions on development plans.

With the slogan ‘Taste, Style, Excitement of Geochang, Grand Imagination of Geochang,’ the festival was held for four days from September 26 to 29 at Geochang Sports Park and the Geochang-eup area. During the festival, about 70 booths including agricultural specialty product sales, local food halls, and regional food halls recorded sales of approximately 800 million KRW, achieving an economic result that increased by 32.7% compared to the previous year.
This year’s festival featured major events such as ▲Geochang Citizen’s Day Ceremony ▲79th County Sports Competition ▲52nd Arim Arts Festival ▲16th Lifelong Learning Festival ▲Green Storehouse Geochang Agricultural Products Grand Festival, along with side events including street parades, water multimedia shows, Kids Land Festival, Food Truck Festival, Youth Zone, Geochang Night Market, and Military Survival, providing a rich variety of sights and food.
In particular, changing the performance section of the street parade to the Daedong-ro Bridge in Geochang-eup increased participation by multicultural families and other citizens; the water multimedia show on Wicheon Stream was a great success among all ages; the Youth Zone, hosted by youth organizations such as the Geochang Youth Network, was successfully operated; efforts to eliminate overcharging and participation in reducing disposable products were highlighted as achievements of this festival.
For next year’s festival, constructive suggestions included developing sustainable themes and programs that highlight the festival’s characteristics, operating local restaurants using regional specialties, and creating a festival that encourages longer stays by linking with major tourist attractions such as the Gamaksan Flower & Star Festival and Changpoweon.
Governor Gu In-mo stated, “The 2024 Geochang Hanmadang Grand Festival became an event where citizens united through various programs and visitors could enjoy together. It concluded successfully without any safety accidents.” He added, “Next year’s festival will prepare more diverse programs by improving and supplementing this year’s issues to promote an event that everyone can enjoy together.”
