Composer and producer Kim Hyung-seok (58) has been selected as a global artist at the prestigious University of Oxford in the UK and will engage in creative and research activities as a visiting scholar.

According to the research team led by Professor Jo Ji-eun (English name: Ji-eun Care) at Oxford University on the 27th, Producer Kim was chosen as one of six global artists selected under Oxford's newly established 'Faculty of Humanities and Kellogg College Visiting Program' this year. He was recognized as an "innovative artist" who led the global success of K-pop.

This program invites world-renowned artists active in the field to collaborate on creation and research with leading scholars on campus. Starting this year, around 10 artists will be selected each year in the second half of the year. Selected artists share knowledge at various Oxford colleges and interact with world-class scholars during their visit. Additionally, they have opportunities to participate in conferences and contribute to education based on their professional experience.

Producer Kim plans to give special lectures and performances related to artificial intelligence (AI) and K-pop in the future. His first activity will be a lecture on the 4th of next month at Oxford's Wolfson College, where he will perform K-pop songs he composed directly in front of faculty and staff. He will also collaborate with Professor Jo's research team on creative and research projects related to the globalization of Hangul and jointly study the convergence of AI and the Korean Wave.

Furthermore, Kim will co-host K-pop and Korean Wave events and support academic research at the 'Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities and Arts,' which Oxford University will open next year as a humanities research facility and large performance venue. He also plans to connect Oxford and Korea to promote activities for a "sustainable Korean Wave." In this regard, Professor Jo's research team is pushing for the establishment of the 'Oxford Korean Wave Center' to foster sustainable development of K-culture.

Earlier, in July, Producer Kim became the first Asian popular culture figure to hold a performance and special lecture at the Sheldonian Theatre, where Oxford's graduation ceremony is held. He also allowed Oxford's research team to use over 1,400 songs he composed free of charge. He stated, "It is not just an individual being recognized, but K-POP as a whole," and added, "I will definitely achieve results by researching 'sustainable Korean Wave' at the world's top research institution."
