Expansion of Ulsan Science Creativity Education, Community Contribution... Fulfilling Social Responsibility
Recognized as a 'Social Contribution Institution' for 2 Consecutive Years... Continued Support for Severely Disabled in the Region
UNIST (President Jongrae Park) received the Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation in the ‘Community Contribution Recognition System,’ becoming the first educational institution to be honored for its contributions to the local community.
This award officially recognizes UNIST’s continuous efforts for the development of the local community.
On the 27th, at the ‘2024 Community Contribution Recognition Day’ event held at the Dragon City Hotel in Seoul, UNIST was selected as one of 17 outstanding social contribution organizations among 626 recognized institutions nationwide and received the Minister’s Commendation. Following last year, UNIST was again named a ‘Community Contribution Recognized Institution,’ demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility.
The event was a meaningful occasion to reward companies and institutions that have practiced exemplary social contributions and to widely promote social values. UNIST attracted attention through its active social contribution activities.
UNIST has consistently carried out activities for mutual growth with the local community in various fields such as education, volunteering, and cooperation. In particular, the Leadership Center’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program provides advanced science education to middle and high school students, contributing to enhancing scientific creativity in the community and nurturing future talents at the national level.
This program is the only high-quality convergence education camp nationwide where UNIST students directly plan educational content and participate in mentoring, and it is evaluated as providing both academic depth and practical education simultaneously.
UNIST has also taken the lead in cooperative activities for the local community. It continues to contribute to the community by conducting regular volunteer activities such as concerts, companion outings, and kimchi-making at Hyejinwon, a residential facility for people with severe disabilities in the Ulsan area.
Park Youngbin, Director of External Cooperation at UNIST, said, “This commendation has become an important milestone in UNIST’s journey of growing together with the local community,” adding, “We will continue to strive to be a university that fulfills its social responsibilities.”
