Meanwhile, the Uiyeoldan was an anti-Japanese armed resistance group organized in November 1919 in Jilin Province, Manchuria, under the leadership of Kim Won-bong. The name Uiyeoldan is an abbreviation of a group (團) that fiercely (烈) carries out righteous (義) deeds, mainly conducting assassination activities against high-ranking officials of the Japanese Empire and sabotage operations on key facilities. Among them, Yun Bong-gil was a Korean independence activist and educator who, in April 1932, under the orders of Baekbeom Kim Gu, successfully carried out a bombing at the Japanese Emperor's birthday and victory celebration held at Hongkou Park in Shanghai.
After the Hongkou Park incident, Yun Bong-gil was captured on the spot by Japanese military police, beaten, and taken away. After enduring severe torture, he was sentenced to death by a military court in Shanghai and imprisoned at Osaka Army Prison. Later, he was transferred to Kanazawa Army Detention Center and was executed by firing squad at the army workshop on December 19, 1932, at the age of 24.
