Gangnam-gu Appoints Dr. Kim In-hee of Seoul Institute as Chief Planner

Many Large Projects Including Yeongdong-daero Complex Development
Designing the Next 100 Years with Systematic Urban Planning

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) announced on the 27th that Dr. Kim In-hee, Senior Research Fellow at the Seoul Institute, was appointed as the Chief Planner on the 26th to promote systematic urban planning.

Gangnam-gu is currently undertaking large-scale development projects such as the creation of an administrative and cultural complex town, the Yeongdong-daero complex development, the international exchange complex district development, housing maintenance projects, the Suseo Station area complex development, and the establishment of a robot hub city.

If these projects proceed sporadically, there is a problem of failing to reflect regional characteristics or achieving synergy effects. Accordingly, the role of a Chief Planner who coordinates the overall urban plan and provides advisory functions has emerged.

Dr. Kim In-hee is an expert in urban planning, spatial structure planning, and urban development projects. She has established the 2030 and 2040 Seoul Basic Urban Plans and the 2050 Seoul Grand Plan, and is currently in charge of the ‘Future Seoul 100-Year Urban Vision and Spatial Plan.’ The district plans to utilize Dr. Kim’s experience and expertise in Seoul’s urban planning to establish the direction of Gangnam-gu’s development projects and strengthen the linkage between large-scale projects. Additionally, each development project will be closely aligned with Seoul’s urban planning to be promoted in an integrated manner.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “The appointment of the Chief Planner is a strategic measure to realize the urban planning vision looking ahead to the next 100 years of Gangnam-gu’s future,” adding, “Through harmonious urban planning, we will create high-quality urban spaces where residents can live well and enhance the value of Gangnam as a global city.”
