Gwangyang City Prepares 1.1456 Trillion Won Budget for Next Year... Submitted to City Council

Direct Impact on Citizens' Lives and Priority Investment for Gyeonggi Revitalization
Strategic Resource Allocation through 'Selection and Concentration'

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 26th that it has prepared a budget of 1.1456 trillion KRW for 2025 and submitted it to the Gwangyang City Council.


The submitted budget increased by 47.7 billion KRW (4.3%) compared to 2024. The general account rose by 61.5 billion KRW (6.8%) to 963.3 billion KRW, while the special account decreased by 13.8 billion KRW (7.05%) to 182.2 billion KRW.

The city set the budget direction through strategic resource allocation focused on selection and concentration. To maximize the effect of financial investment, priority was given to regional development projects such as SOC projects that can be completed within the year, strengthening welfare support policies for vulnerable groups including children, adolescents, women, and the elderly, enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises, and focusing on performance-driven policies in tourism and agriculture sectors.


Major budget-reflected projects include ▲56 billion KRW for the construction of Gwangyang-eup Resident Autonomy Center ▲28 billion KRW for the expansion of the Gwangyang 5-day Market parking lot ▲36 billion KRW for the creation of Dongcheon Scenic Plaza ▲51 billion KRW for the development of Baegunsan Forest Welfare Complex ▲93 billion KRW for the comprehensive maintenance project of the Okgok Singum district flood control living zone.


Additionally, ▲5 billion KRW for the establishment of the Gwangyang National Industrial Complex Integrated Control Center ▲3.2 billion KRW for the second phase of the Okgokcheon Ecological Stream Restoration Project ▲5.7 billion KRW for the construction of high-end youth rental housing in Gwangyang Happy Town ▲3.9 billion KRW for the construction of a public postpartum care center ▲5 billion KRW for the expansion and paving of the Gwangyang Port hinterland road ▲5 billion KRW for the expansion and paving of the road from Gwangyang-eup Usijang Intersection to the Clock Tower ▲9 billion KRW for the road construction from Yonggang District in Gwangyang-eup to Yonggang Water Purification Plant ▲3.2 billion KRW for the creation of a public cargo truck parking lot in Jungdong ▲8 billion KRW for the Kumho-dong urban regeneration recognition project were also included.


Mayor Jeong In-hwa stated, “Given the recent ongoing economic downturn, the financial conditions are not favorable. However, we will prioritize investment in policy projects directly related to citizens’ lives and those that can revitalize the economy, as well as regional development projects that will drive city development, to further strive for performance in the third year of the 8th elected administration.”


Meanwhile, the 2025 budget proposal of Gwangyang City is scheduled to be approved at the plenary session on December 18 after review by the standing committee and the special budget and accounts committee of the Gwangyang City Council.
