City Hall Intersection · Bank of Korea Intersection
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will improve the S-BRT entry lanes to alleviate traffic congestion in the sections of City Hall Intersection and Bank of Korea Intersection connected to Changwon Plaza.
Since the opening of the Wonidaero S-BRT on May 15, the punctuality and mobility of buses have increased, but traffic congestion has been caused due to poor vehicle flow of general vehicles in some sections.
In particular, during rush hours, traffic congestion occurs at the City Hall Intersection and Bank of Korea Intersection connected to Changwon Plaza, making it difficult for city buses to enter the S-BRT dedicated lanes.
To resolve these issues, the city will analyze vehicle flow at Changwon Plaza and proceed with construction to separate general vehicles and city buses from the Changwon Plaza roundabout. The construction will mark colored guide lines on the road surface for the bus-only lane and left-turn lane, and partially remove traffic islands to widen the S-BRT dedicated lane.
Once the construction is completed, city buses will be able to enter the S-BRT dedicated lanes smoothly, and the prevention of general vehicles mistakenly entering bus-only lanes will improve vehicle flow and create a safer road driving environment.
Lee Jong-deok, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, said, “After the opening of Wonidaero S-BRT, we have been monitoring the traffic situation on Wonidaero and established improvement plans for major congestion points. In addition to the current improvement of the S-BRT entry lanes at Changwon Plaza, we will also carry out improvement works in the Dogye Plaza and Yongji Intersection sections to resolve traffic congestion on Wonidaero.”
