Gapyeong Cheongpyeong Residents Urge "GTX-B Line Stop at Cheongpyeong Station"

Cheongpyeong-myeon Launches Petition and Resident Briefing for GTX-B Line 'Cheongpyeong Station Stop'

Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it has started a signature campaign and village-by-village briefing sessions to urge the ‘Cheongpyeong Station stop’ if the Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX)-B line is extended to Gapyeong from the 11th of this month. The signature campaign and briefing sessions will be held until the 27th.

Gapyeong Cheongpyeong Residents Urge "GTX-B Line Stop at Cheongpyeong Station" Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, has been conducting a signature campaign involving all residents and holding village-by-village briefing sessions since the 11th to urge the 'Cheongpyeong Station stop' in the extension of the Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Train (GTX)-B line to Gapyeong. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that in October, Gapyeong-gun (Gyeonggi Province) and Chuncheon-si (Gangwon Province) requested the extension project of the GTX-B line, and it decided to start a feasibility verification service. The feasibility verification will be conducted for about nine months, including economic and technical feasibility and cost sharing.

Accordingly, Cheongpyeong-myeon is visiting 24 locations such as village halls within the area to easily inform residents about the necessity of stopping at Cheongpyeong Station when the GTX-B line is extended to Gapyeong and the progress of the feasibility verification service for the project.

According to Cheongpyeong-myeon, ‘Cheongpyeong Station’ is the central station of Gapyeong used by about 40,000 residents from four myeon (townships): Cheongpyeong-myeon, Seorak-myeon, Sang-myeon, and Jojong-myeon. However, it is in a poor transportation situation due to the lack of highway interchange (IC) access and the limited operation frequency of the ITX-Cheongchun train, causing inconvenience in traveling to central Seoul.

Jo Doo-young, head of Cheongpyeong-myeon, said, “We are actively informing residents about the current situation where the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is reviewing the feasibility of stopping at Cheongpyeong Station if the GTX-B line is extended to Gapyeong,” and added, “We ask for active participation in the signature campaign so that the residents’ wishes can be fully conveyed to the Ministry.”

Residents who attended the village briefing sessions said, “The briefing session was a valuable opportunity to realize once again the necessity of stopping at Cheongpyeong Station on the GTX-B line,” and “We will actively participate in the signature campaign with the whole family and promote it widely to those around us.”

Cheongpyeong-myeon aims for more than 80% of all residents to participate in the signature campaign and is actively seeking cooperation from related organizations and groups along with the village briefing sessions.
