Jeonnam Province Strives to Designate a 3.2GW Offshore Wind Power Cluster Complex

Jeonnam Province has set the first phase target of the Sinan Offshore Wind Power Integration Complex at 3.2GW by the first half of 2025 and is moving quickly by launching a council aimed at designation in the first half of next year.

On the 25th, Jeonnam Province held the 4th Public-Private Council at the provincial office to discuss the formation and operation plan of the power grid consultative body. During the meeting, preliminary preparations to accelerate the project were made, including appointing local resident representatives as private members related to the integration complex’s transmission lines.

The project plan was also revised from the original 12 complexes totaling 3.7GW to 10 complexes totaling 3.2GW. The 3.2GW capacity exceeds Denmark’s deployment record (3GW), which ranks 5th worldwide in offshore wind power capacity, and is 25 times the current domestic offshore wind power capacity of 124MW.

The resident representative committee requested, "Please promptly present a win-win plan including profit sharing and support that local residents along the planned transmission line route can accept."

In response, Park Chang-hwan, Jeonnam Province’s Deputy Governor for Economy, stated, "We will prepare a win-win plan through continuous communication with various stakeholders, including local residents."

Jeonnam Province plans to submit the finalized project plan confirmed at this 4th meeting to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy within this year, aiming for designation of the integration complex in the first half of 2025.
