Cheonan City to Launch Full-Scale Hub-Type Smart City Project with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport

Cheonan City in Chungnam Province announced on the 26th that it will officially begin the 'Hub-type Smart City' development project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Cheonan Mayor Park Sangdon signed an implementation agreement for the hub-type smart city development project with 11 consortiums at Cheonan Town Hall the previous day.

The consortium includes Cheonan Institute of Science and Technology Promotion, Chungnam Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, Dankook University, SK Planet, CJ OliveNetworks, Woowa Brothers, JB Corporation, Kona I, NHN Cloud, Eins S&C, and DK Techin.

According to the agreement, by 2026, a smart hub city based on urban tech, combining corporate support functions and a smart spatial structure, will be established around the Cheonan Station Innovation District. The total project cost is estimated at 38 billion KRW.

The city plans to establish a detailed implementation plan by February next year and begin construction upon receiving approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Mayor Park stated, "Through this project, we have initiated a major transformation toward a sustainable smart city through public-private cooperation," adding, "Cheonan will grow into a new type of smart city for citizens, differentiated from existing smart cities."
