Establishment of Smart Snow Removal Control and AI Road Hazard Monitoring System
Plan to Pilot Next Month and Expand Implementation
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has established a system based on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor road hazards including heavy snowfall and falling hazardous materials.
On the 26th, Yongin City announced that it has pilot-introduced the 'Smart Snow Removal Control System' and the 'AI Road Hazard Management System' to monitor snow removal conditions on roads and hazards such as potholes and falling objects.

The 'Smart Snow Removal Control System' installs control terminals equipped with IoT sensors on snow removal vehicles to display video and location information on a map in real time. The system is linked with disaster and traffic CCTVs installed along snow removal routes to verify whether snow removal work on roads has been completed.
The city initially installed control terminals on 87 snow removal vehicles weighing over 5 tons across three district offices within the jurisdiction and plans to monitor actual snow removal status in real time from next month until March of next year.
The 'AI Road Hazard Management System' installs front-facing video recording devices on buses to detect road hazards such as potholes and falling objects in real time. The city explained that this allows for proactive road maintenance work on identified hazards, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.
In July, the city was selected for the 'Smart City Regulatory Sandbox Contest' and secured 500 million KRW in national funding to build this system. The city plans to pilot-install video recording devices on 100 city buses within its jurisdiction and conduct data verification on some routes throughout next year.
A city official stated, "After verifying the effectiveness of the newly introduced system, we will expand the service annually."
