About 30 people attended the opening ceremony, including Mayor Ju Gwang-deok of Namyangju City, city council members, center operation committee members, representatives from partner organizations, and local residents. The event proceeded in the order of △center introduction △operation committee appointment certificate presentation △center tour △refreshments.
Sangsang Nuriter is a project that operates elementary care centers efficiently and strategically by utilizing various idle spaces within the community free of charge, focusing on areas with high care demand or insufficient care infrastructure.
Onam Pureunsup Center operates various programs such as curriculum learning support, reading discussions and writing, art, and music, reflecting the characteristics and strengths of the old downtown area.
In particular, the cooking program, which uses ingredients grown directly in the center’s garden to make dishes that children want, is receiving great response.
At the opening ceremony, Mayor Ju Gwang-deok said, “Our children are the lights of hope, and raising these children into talented individuals is the greatest task.” He added, “As Dasan Jeong Yak-yong said, ‘Raising one child is like creating a world and universe for that child,’ I hope that such a great and beautiful work begins at Sangsang Nuriter Onam Pureunsup Center.”
Meanwhile, the city is preparing to open two centers, Dasan Byeolbit Center and Hwado Daum Center, in December this year, and plans to open four additional centers in 2025, operating a total of 10 Sangsang Nuriter centers.
