The companion animal culture festival is an event planned to establish a mature companion animal culture.

Jang In-bo, head of the Hanam branch of the Korea Film Association and director of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics musical gala show, served as the general director and host of this festival, elevating the event's prestige.

On this day, the companion animal culture festival consisted of various programs including ▶ Companion Animal Culture Class (customized education and counseling for pets) ▶ Participation Programs (dog treasure hunt, photo shoot, wait contest) ▶ Experience Programs (dog sports experience) ▶ Talk Concert (dog trainers Jo Jun-seo and Jang Young-joo).

In particular, Hanam City operated an adoption promotion booth for abandoned dogs in collaboration with 'Gyeonsaeng Yeokjeon,' a dog-specialized YouTuber with 340,000 subscribers, helping Hanam's abandoned dogs find new families and receiving high praise from animal protection organizations.

A pet owner who participated in the event said, "I am very grateful that Hanam City created the Misa Island Pet Zone, a dog playground where dogs and owners can enjoy together, and held the companion animal culture festival." They added, "I hope it continues to grow into one of the nation's leading pet-friendly cities through various cultural festivals and projects."

Mayor Lee Hyun-jae said at the opening ceremony, "We will successfully operate the Misa Island Pet Zone, a dog playground promoted as a pledge project of the 8th local government, and strive to implement various companion animal policies so that both pet owners and non-pet owners can coexist happily."

Meanwhile, the Misa Island Pet Zone, which opened on July 29 this year, has gained great popularity among pet owners and has become a famous pet destination visited by about 1,000 people every week. In this process, Hanam City continuously listened to on-site opinions and expanded convenience facilities such as 'shade benches.'
