Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Park Byung-gyu) announced on the 25th that it recently received the Prime Minister's Award, the highest honor for basic local governments, for excellence in infectious disease prevention and management at the 2024 Infectious Disease Management Academic Conference.
Gwangsan-gu played a crucial role in rapid response and containment of infection spread within the community through immediate reporting and notification, as well as swift epidemiological investigations during infectious disease outbreaks. The district maintained a 100% compliance rate with the legally mandated infectious disease reporting deadlines, demonstrating the speed and accuracy of its infectious disease response system.
Additionally, Gwangsan-gu organized an infectious disease prevention promotion team (supporters) to establish a public-private-academic cooperation infrastructure. It was recognized for excellent performance in infectious disease prevention and management by directly communicating with local residents through not only online promotions such as social networking services (SNS) but also on-site educational outreach.
The 2024 Infectious Disease Management Academic Conference, hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, was held over two days starting from the 21st.
Park Byung-gyu, Mayor of Gwangsan-gu, said, "We are pleased to have our district’s excellence in infectious disease prevention and management recognized through this award. We will continue to strengthen the public-private cooperation system and do our best to ensure that local residents can live safer and healthier lives."
