Securing Talented Students from Local Universities

On the 25th at 11:30 AM, Daegu City signed an investment agreement with SGA Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Jae-han) at the Sanggyeok Government Complex in Daegu to establish the ‘SGA Group Integrated Research Center for 5 Affiliates’ within Suseong Alpha City.

The SGA Group, founded in 2003 as an IT security specialist company, oversees a total of eight affiliates including integrated IT security, application software, and blockchain electronic signatures. Notably, its core affiliates, SGA Co., Ltd. and SGA Solutions Co., Ltd., are listed on KOSDAQ and focus respectively on educational informatization business operations and IT security solution research and development. The eight affiliates are SGA Co., Ltd., SGA Solutions Co., Ltd., SGA Systems Co., Ltd., SGA EPS Co., Ltd., SGA Futures Co., Ltd., VoiceEye Co., Ltd., SGN Co., Ltd., and Axis Investment Co., Ltd.

Capital Region IT Company SGA Group to Invest 42 Billion KRW in Building an Integrated Research Center in Daegu by 2028 SGA Group, an IT company in the Seoul metropolitan area, CEO Jaehan Park (right) signed an investment agreement with Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu.

SGA Group plans to invest 42 billion KRW by 2028 to build a seven-story integrated research center on a 2,099㎡ (636 pyeong) site in Suseong Alpha City and to newly hire 90 IT research and development talents in the region.

SGA Co., Ltd. will relocate its headquarters research center to Daegu to develop a conversational chatbot system based on a small language model (sLLM), and will integrate the second corporate research centers of SGA Solutions Co., Ltd. and three other affiliates in Suseong Alpha City to research AI-based next-generation security systems.

The background for this investment decision includes the well-established IT and software industry-academia cooperation system centered around the ABB Global Campus of Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) and the Daegu University Education Research Center in Suseong Alpha City, as well as the close accessibility to IT security industry support organizations such as the Korea Education and Research Information Service, Daegu Information Security Support Center, and Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency, which are dedicated to educational informatization projects.

Daegu City views this investment by SGA Group as the first company attraction case since Suseong Alpha City was designated as an ‘Opportunity Development Zone’ in June, expecting it to invigorate the attraction of ABB companies outside the metropolitan area within Suseong Alpha City. The Opportunity Development Zone is an area that provides a package of support including tax, financial aid, regulatory exemptions, and improved living conditions to attract large-scale investments to local regions.

At the same time, it is expected to contribute to strengthening the global AX (AI Transformation) research and development hub ecosystem jointly promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Daegu City.

Park Jae-han, CEO of SGA Co., Ltd., said, “We expect synergy effects with Daegu City’s ABB policy and securing excellent IT talents through local universities,” adding, “The SGA Group Integrated Research Center will contribute to the growth and advancement of the local ABB industry.”

Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu City, said, “In a situation where ABB companies are heavily concentrated in the metropolitan area, we welcome SGA Group, a metropolitan company, establishing an integrated research center in Daegu,” and added, “We will provide full policy support so that SGA Group can become a leading company in AI-based security business not only domestically but also overseas.”
