Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) announced on the 25th that the "Infectious Disease Response Capacity Enhancement, Escape Room Epidemiological Investigation Game Project" won the silver award in the infectious disease prevention and management policy proposal category at the 2024 Infectious Disease Management Conference hosted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

The "KDCA Infectious Disease Management Conference" was held from the 21st to the 22nd at Inspire Resort in Incheon, with 739 participants including officials from the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, local governments nationwide, related ministries, and affiliated organizations. Through this event, the KDCA shared knowledge and experiences on infectious disease prevention and management and discussed future development directions.

The infectious disease prevention and management policy proposal category, in which Yangpyeong-gun won the silver award, selected 21 final candidates through a nationwide local government contest, and then determined the final awardees by reflecting 80% internal evaluation by the KDCA and 20% on-site voting at the event.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the county deeply realized the importance of rapid and accurate epidemiological investigations when confirmed cases occur. However, there was a shortage of trained staff who had completed infectious disease education and could practically conduct epidemiological investigations. Even when non-face-to-face or face-to-face training was conducted, there were limitations in applying it to field operations, which the county sought to improve.

Accordingly, the county developed an "Escape Room Epidemiological Investigation Game" program that can be usefully applied for infectious disease response capacity enhancement education and training, allowing practitioners to receive education easily and enjoyably and to conduct epidemiological investigations smoothly when infectious diseases occur.

Jeon Jin-seon, Governor of Yangpyeong-gun, said, "Yangpyeong-gun proposed a policy that applies the Escape Room Epidemiological Investigation Game program not only for infectious diseases like COVID-19 but also for all legally designated infectious diseases, enabling continuous strengthening of response personnel's capabilities through practice and training regardless of time and place, and was honored to receive the silver award." He added, "Going forward, Yangpyeong-gun will do its best to carry out proactive administration for the preemptive response to infectious diseases."
