Operate Intensive Promotion Period Until Mid-December to Expand Consensus

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 25th that it will launch an intensive publicity campaign to accelerate the establishment of the separate collection system for transparent PET bottles.

The ‘Separate Collection System for Transparent PET Bottles’ is a system where labels are removed and bottles are compressed after emptying contents such as water, then disposed of in designated collection bins or transparent bags. It was first implemented in apartment complexes in December 2020 and expanded to single-family homes in November 2021.

Currently, transparent PET bottles are being separated and collected at a certain rate in apartment complexes, but separation is insufficient due to inconvenience in removing bottle labels, lack of awareness about separate collection, and shortage of collection bins.

Paju City plans to operate an intensive publicity period on transparent PET bottle separation and collection until mid-December to broaden public consensus on recycling transparent PET bottles.

The city will conduct guidance-focused promotional activities centered on apartment complexes and single-family homes, including checking the status of separate collection and providing instructions on disposal methods. It also plans to request cooperation from apartment management offices to post related notices on apartment bulletin boards and designated collection bins.

Shim Jae-woo, Director of the Resource Circulation Division, said, “Separate collection of transparent PET bottles plays an important role in resource circulation policies,” urging active participation from citizens.
