On the 18th, Initiation of Waterfront Space Development Along Danghyeoncheon Floor Fountain and Nearby Waterways of Uicheon
Rest and Cultural Hub Spaces Including Resting Observatory, Waterfront Cafe, Curved Bridge, and Media Glass
Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will create a 'Waterfront Vitality Hub' in a scenic area along Danghyeoncheon and Uicheon streams.
Recently, there has been growing preference for spaces utilizing waterfront landscapes as alternatives for urban public spaces. The district has been discovering various attractions to transform the abundant waterfront areas such as Jungnangcheon, Danghyeoncheon, and Uicheon within the region into central community spaces. In particular, through being selected for the Seoul Waterfront Vitality Hub Creation Project, the district officially began the project on the 18th.
First, the area near Danghyeoncheon will be reborn as a waterside space where nature, rest, and culture coexist in daily life. During the day, a two-story resting observation terrace called Danghyeonmaru will be constructed to allow views of the eco-friendly ecological stream of Danghyeoncheon and the district’s representative mountain, Bulamsan, along with a ground fountain utilizing the stream’s waterway. A waterfront caf? will also be operated.
The nightscape, enjoyed during evening walks, will be further enriched with a crescent moon-shaped curved bridge called Dalbit Bridge and landscape lighting. Especially, the sound of water heard while crossing the stream via the bridge will naturally blend with the night view, allowing visitors to enjoy a uniquely charming night walk.
The area near the Danghyeoncheon ground fountain is regularly used as a stage for the district’s representative cultural performances and festivals such as the ‘Cherry Blossom Concert’ and ‘Moonlight Walk.’ The district plans to install additional media glass capable of displaying various colors and patterns to vividly showcase the changing scenery of Danghyeoncheon throughout the seasons, while enabling residents to enjoy diverse media art works in their daily lives.
Along a roughly 43-meter section near Uicheon from Choanjeong to Beolrigyo Bridge (Wolgye-dong 876-3), a waterside space will be created where visitors can enjoy diverse leisure and cultural activities while appreciating the natural scenery of Uicheon, Choansan, and Bukhansan.
Constructed as a single-story facility, the core waterfront caf? will be surrounded by an observation deck on the first floor, with an observatory and photo zone on the rooftop, allowing visitors to enjoy ‘mulmeong’ (relaxing while watching water) while overlooking Uicheon. The rooftop elevator to be installed is designed with consideration for the convenience of mobility-impaired individuals such as wheelchair users, stroller-pushing passengers, and the elderly, providing inclusive rest for all residents.
Additionally, Uicheon is located about a 10-minute walk from the ‘Choansan Hydrangea Hill (Wolgye-dong San 46-3),’ which opened in June, and is expected to become a resting and cultural space for residents who use the Hydrangea Hill.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Following the preference for forest zones, interest in water zones is increasing,” and added, “We will continue to strive to enable residents to enjoy high-quality leisure and cultural activities in waterfront spaces close to their living areas.”
