According to the legal community on the 24th, the prosecution requested a 10-year prison sentence at the conclusion of the trial held on the 22nd at the Gwangju District Court against Kim Mo (32), who is charged with hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. The prosecution stated, "Due to Kim's crime, a victim in their 20s lost their life at a young age," and added, "Nevertheless, Kim fled the scene immediately after the accident without providing aid and remained on the run for a considerable period." The prosecution also requested a sentence of 1 year and 6 months imprisonment for accomplice Oh Mo (33), who is accused of assisting the escape.

Earlier, Kim is accused of driving a Maserati after consuming more than two bottles of soju at around 3:11 a.m. on September 24 in Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, and colliding with a motorcycle ahead. As a result of this accident, a woman in her 20s who was riding as a passenger on the motorcycle died, and the male driver sustained serious injuries. Kim fled the scene immediately after the accident without providing aid. Oh assisted Kim's escape by providing burner phones through Telegram, knowing that Kim had caused a fatal accident and was fleeing.

At the time of the incident, the victims were transported to the hospital following reports from citizens, but the female passenger ultimately died. The motorcycle driver, who worked as a delivery person, was on his way home with his girlfriend when the accident occurred. Witness statements revealed that "a few minutes after the accident, the motorcycle driver lifted his head and cried out, 'Is my girlfriend dead?'," adding to the sorrow surrounding the case.

Meanwhile, the police have sent two additional accomplices who assisted Kim's escape to prosecution without detention. They have also expanded the investigation after uncovering evidence of Kim's involvement in illegal online gambling. Furthermore, the accident vehicle was confirmed to be a burner car, and about ten other burner vehicles registered under the name of a related corporation were identified. Four individuals, including the representative of the corporation, have been booked on charges of violating the Automobile Management Act.

In his final statement, Kim said, "I deeply apologize to the victims and bereaved families suffering from the accident I caused," but the victims submitted a petition to the court requesting severe punishment. Another victim, still receiving hospital treatment, appeared in court and shed tears.
