Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, appointed Alex Wong (photo), who was in charge of North Korea negotiations during his first term, as the Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs at the White House on the 22nd (local time).
In a statement on the same day, Trump said, "Alex served as the Special Representative for North Korea and Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asia and the Pacific at the State Department during my first term," and announced that he is scheduled to be appointed as the Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs.
Trump introduced, "As the Special Representative for North Korea, he helped negotiate the summit talks between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and me. Alex also led the State Department's efforts to implement a free and open Indo-Pacific strategy."
During Trump's first term, Wong was involved in North Korea negotiations, accompanying Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when he visited Pyongyang in July 2018 for follow-up talks after the June 2018 Singapore North Korea?United States summit.
