Consul General Kim Eui-hwan in New York Gives Special Lecture on 'Korea's Prosperity and Anti-Corruption Success' at Harvard University

According to the Consulate General in New York on the 22nd (local time), Consul General Kim delivered a lecture on the 20th to Harvard Kennedy School students under the theme "The Role of Government and the United Nations in Korea's Prosperity."

In his lecture, Consul General Kim explained that the introduction of "liberal democracy" and "market economy" were key factors in Korea's economic development. He also emphasized that outstanding leaders, entrepreneurial spirit, and a competent and non-corrupt government were driving forces behind rapid economic growth.

He also introduced Korea's anti-corruption strategies. Based on his experience working at the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), he cited Korea's IT technology enabling the introduction of non-face-to-face administrative services and a fair recruitment system as success factors of the anti-corruption strategy.

The students showed enthusiastic responses, discussing how Korea's development case could influence development policies in other countries.

On the following day, the 21st, Consul General Kim was invited to attend a class at Harvard Kennedy School, where he observed the class and discussed overall Korea-US relations with the students. He particularly pointed out that the issuance rate of H1-B professional work visas to Koreans is 1.6%, significantly lower than that of India and China, and emphasized the need to expand this rate to facilitate smooth recruitment of personnel by Korean companies that have greatly increased investment in the US.

Consul General Kim stated, "Based on my experience working at the United Nations, I introduced the case of Korea's development," adding, "There is a growing need to share Korea's driving forces and cases of development with other countries in middle- and low-income country development cooperation."
