The court rejected the request from opposition-leaning KBS board members to halt the appointment of Park Jang-beom as KBS president.
Park Jang-beom, the KBS president candidate, is drinking water after answering questions from committee members at the third day of the confirmation hearing held by the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee on the morning of the 20th.
The Civil Division 51 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Woo-hyun) dismissed the provisional injunction filed on the 22nd by four opposition-leaning KBS board members against the corporation, seeking to "suspend the effect of the board resolution."
The court ruled, "It is difficult to view the appointment of seven pro-government KBS board members by the president, following the recommendation and resolution of the Korea Communications Commission under the so-called 'dual leadership system,' as clearly illegal and invalid. Accordingly, it is also difficult to conclude that the board resolution in this case is invalid."
On the 23rd of last month, the KBS board selected Park Jang-beom, then anchor of 'News 9,' as the final candidate for the 27th president. At that time, the opposition-leaning board members pointed out procedural flaws, refused to vote, and subsequently filed a court request to suspend the effect of the appointment recommendation.
