Kim Han-jong, the former governor of Jangseong County in Jeollanam-do, is actively working on all fronts to promote the construction of Sangmu Apartments, a residential facility for military families at Sangmu Base.

According to Jangseong County on the 22nd, Governor Kim Han-jong reached a consensus last month at a meeting attended by the principal of Sangmu Base School and members of the National Assembly’s Defense Committee to promptly proceed with the construction of Sangmu Apartments, consisting of 165 units. Furthermore, on the 6th, he visited the National Assembly to explain the necessity of constructing Sangmu Apartments to Ahn Kyu-baek, the chairman of the Defense Committee.

Sangmu Apartments, where soldiers and their families at Sangmu Base?the largest military training facility of the Army?currently reside, were built in 1994 and have become severely inconvenient for residents due to aging and deterioration. In this situation, the construction plan has gained momentum recently as it was discussed by the National Assembly’s Special Budget and Accounts Committee.

The project cost is expected to be approximately 47 billion KRW for the construction of two apartment buildings with 165 units. The construction of new officers’ quarters and a dining hall within the base is also under consideration. Jangseong County plans to go a step further by securing funds for ▲repairing sports facilities for trainees at Sangmu Base and ▲building a library at Sangmu Base.

Governor Kim Han-jong emphasized, “Although this is a long-standing project for Sangmu Base, it is a local issue, so we must naturally join forces together. I will continue to make efforts not only to promote the construction of Sangmu Apartments but also to secure additional budgets.”
