Edward Lee (Korean name: Lee Gyun), a Korean-American chef and the winner of the Netflix cooking competition show "Black and White Chef: Culinary Class War" (hereinafter "Black and White Chef") semifinal mission "Infinite Cooking Hell - Tofu," has been selected as the new face of Maeil Soymilk following Pulmuone.
On the 22nd, Maeil Dairy announced that Edward Lee was chosen as the brand ambassador and advertising model for Maeil Soymilk. During his appearance on "Black and White Chef," Edward Lee created a "Soymilk Tofu Soup" using "Maeil Soymilk 99.9." Edward Lee said, "Collaborating with companies that realize social value for a better future is a great inspiration to me," adding, "Maeil Soymilk is a product that proposes a healthy lifestyle based on a low-sugar diet, so as a brand ambassador, I want to help consumers make healthier and more meaningful choices."
Earlier this month, Pulmuone Food also appointed Edward Lee as a brand ambassador. On the 8th, Pulmuone announced that Edward Lee was selected as the brand ambassador for Pulmuone Food, stating, "Edward Lee plans to widely promote Pulmuone’s representative product and his symbol, 'tofu,' as well as the plant-based food brand 'Pulmuone Earth Diet' and the premium Korean convenient meal brand 'Bandeuthan Sik' with its easy-to-cook seasonings."
Edward Lee gained immense popularity on "Black and White Chef" by presenting new Korean fusion dishes, rivaling even the winner. He expressed his honor in becoming a brand ambassador, saying, "I have deeply resonated with Pulmuone’s brand spirit and have been a loyal user even in the U.S. I am honored to work as a brand ambassador and will strive to promote Korean cuisine and culture more widely through various campaigns with Pulmuone."
Pulmuone plans to conduct various marketing activities using Edward Lee’s recipes and aims to launch new products jointly developed with him next year. They also plan to promote Pulmuone brand campaigns in the U.S.
Born in New York and a graduate in English Literature from New York University, Edward Lee gained attention by winning the 8th season of the famous American cooking survival show "Iron Chef America" in 2010. He also served as a guest chef at the White House state dinner during the 2023 Korea-U.S. summit. Currently operating four restaurants in the U.S., he recently opened a new Korean restaurant "Shia" near the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
