As the peak kimchi-making season approaches, Gimhae City in Gyeongnam Province has decided to temporarily allow the disposal of kimchi-making waste in general volume-based waste bags until December 31.
The city announced that to reduce citizens' inconvenience regarding the disposal of waste generated after making kimchi, such as napa cabbage and radish greens, residents will be allowed to dispose of it in volume-based waste bags until the end of the year.
During this period, kimchi-making waste in small amounts can be disposed of in food waste containers, and if the amount is large or the waste is not cut, it can be placed in volume-based waste bags for disposal.
From the new year, waste must be disposed of in food waste containers as before.

The city is promoting waste reduction and disposal methods for the large amounts of kimchi-making waste by sending notices to apartment management offices, commercial establishments, and town offices.
A city official urged, “Since kimchi-making waste is generated in large quantities only temporarily during the kimchi-making season, we hope residents purchase pre-processed napa cabbage and radish, such as those trimmed or salted at production sites.”
