The ‘Nam-myeon Pumpkin Farming Group’ submitted a video under the theme ‘Zero Heat-Related Illnesses through Daily Heatwave Response’ for this contest.
In particular, the video added a sense of realism by including safety management guidelines and health rules for foreign seasonal workers during summer farm work, reflecting the recent agricultural situation where the deployment of foreign seasonal workers has increased to address labor shortages in greenhouse farms.
The awards ceremony took place at the ‘2024 Comprehensive Evaluation Meeting for Agricultural Work Safety and Accident Prevention Projects,’ a venue for sharing achievements in central-level agricultural work safety and accident prevention projects.
A Yangju City official said, “We are pleased to widely promote Yangju City’s excellent preemptive measures for agricultural work safety accidents to cities and counties nationwide through this award. Moving forward, we will take the lead in safety education and publicity targeting vulnerable farming groups such as foreign seasonal workers, female farmers, and elderly farmers, focusing on heat-related illnesses common in agricultural fields, proper pesticide use, and fall accident prevention.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Yangju City Nam-myeon Pumpkin Farming Group’ is an organization producing Korean zucchini, consisting of 15 members. This year, they received support from the Rural Development Administration and the Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services for the ‘Crop-Specific Customized Safety Management Practice Pilot Project.’ They have significantly improved agricultural work accident prevention and safety by providing musculoskeletal disorder prevention education, introducing agricultural work safety equipment and protective gear, and improving the environment through risk factor diagnosis and monitoring at each work stage.
