The eighth Parent Education session, held in Suwon (KB Innatenium), was themed ‘Sharing.’ Oh Hae-du, author of the book Develop Sensitivity to Recognizing School Violence and a school violence prevention counselor, and singer Sean (CEO of Seungil Hope Foundation) gave lectures on ‘Creating a Warm Family with Sharing.’

Over 200 parents and education community members participated on-site in this year’s final session. Parents who could not attend in person also joined the education via the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education’s YouTube channel (GO3), celebrating the successful completion of the 2024 Onpum Parent Education.

This year’s ‘Visiting Onpum Parent Education’ was held monthly from April to November to promote parental participation in education and strengthen their capacity for child education. Eight themes were selected: △Communication △Family △Learning △Understanding △Reflection △Career △Relationships △Sharing, and sessions were evenly conducted across northern and southern Gyeonggi regions.

Notably, lectures on topics such as AI-manipulated videos (deepfakes), school violence prevention, understanding adolescent children, self-directed learning, and career education reflected social changes and parental demands, making the education especially meaningful.

The Parent Education program received strong positive responses by utilizing various participatory education methods, including special lectures by experts and celebrities in each field, group discussions among on-site parents, and non-face-to-face live broadcasts (talk concerts).

To increase parental participation opportunities, the Office of Education diversified operating hours to morning, afternoon, and evening sessions and provided multiple participation methods, including on-site attendance, real-time live streaming, and replay availability for a certain period. As a result, approximately 13,000 parents across the province participated over the eight sessions.

Additionally, each session included a time to introduce Gyeonggi education policies, where the responsible departments of the Office of Education directly explained major education policies such as △Character Education △Digital Citizenship Education △Gyeonggi Shared Schools, aiming to enhance parents’ interest and understanding of Gyeonggi education policies.

Gu Soon-i, Director of the Administrative Capacity Policy Division at the Office of Education, stated, “For the healthy growth of precious children, the growth of parents must also be achieved together,” adding, “We thank the parents who actively participated in the education and will continue to strive to prepare various measures to strengthen parental capacity.”

Meanwhile, various materials from the Onpum Parent Education sessions can be found on the Gyeonggi Parent Support Center website.
