Korean female tourists visiting China have attracted significant attention from local netizens for their polite greetings.
On the 22nd, the YouTube channel 'OKASHU,' which reports local news in China, uploaded footage captured by a CCTV camera in a convenience store. The video shows three Korean women entering the store to purchase items. The three, presumed to be tourists, bought so many items that they had to divide them into several bags. When the store owner asked, "Are you Korean?" the three replied, "Yes." They then used a translation app on their phones to communicate in simple Chinese, completed their purchase, and left.
While the situation seemed ordinary from a Korean perspective, local netizens focused on their 'manners.' The women repeatedly bowed to the store owner, showing polite behavior. The YouTuber explained, "Since such greeting etiquette does not exist in China, the Chinese owner just smiled." He added, "The netizen who posted this video titled it 'The embarrassed owner due to the very polite Korean beauties.'" He also mentioned, "Although some Chinese viewers made strange comments about this short, trivial video, there were various reactions, including personal experiences interacting with Koreans, cultural differences between the two countries, discussions about prices, and impressions some Chinese had of Korean women."
He then introduced specific reactions from locals who viewed the video. According to the content, they said things like, "I met Koreans and Japanese in Macau, and they were truly polite," "Everyone should bow and greet like in this video," "A Korean woman once asked me for directions. After crossing the street, she bowed deeply to thank me," "The president of my wife's company was Korean, and he arrived early every day to greet all employees with 'Good morning' and ask about their well-being," "We need to learn from Korean etiquette," "Truly befitting citizens of a developed country," "I have never seen such a polite woman before," and "There is no such manner in China. We are not a 'country of etiquette,'" sharing their diverse experiences and thoughts.
