The Department of Nursing at Gyeongnam National University held the "15th Nightingale Oath Ceremony" at the Simyeon Hall in Hanma Future Hall.
On the 21st, 124 second-year nursing students, through a candlelight ceremony led by the student representative and the oath-taking, reflected on the noble spirit of Nightingale before clinical practice and pledged to dedicate themselves to respecting life and upholding the ethics and responsibilities as professional nurses.
The ceremony was attended by President Park Jaegyu, Vice President of Academic Affairs Lee Sanghoon, Dean of Student Affairs Kim Changyoon, Dean of the College of Health and Welfare Kim Yongsung, Head of the Department of Nursing Yang Seungkyung, nursing students taking the oath, and faculty members. Guests included Nam Jeongja, President of the Gyeongnam Nursing Association, and the head of community nursing, along with families and acquaintances of the oath-takers who came to celebrate and encourage them.
In his congratulatory speech, President Park said, “I extend my congratulations and encouragement to all 124 prospective nurses who have engraved the nursing spirit and sense of mission of Nightingale in their hearts in this historic year marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Gyeongsangnam-do Nursing Association.”
He added, “During national medical crises such as COVID-19, your predecessors have always devoted themselves as ‘flames of hope’ by the side of the people,” and “I hope you will follow the noble path paved by your predecessors and practice precious love in healthcare settings both domestically and internationally.”
Meanwhile, the Department of Nursing at Gyeongnam National University has established itself as an institution producing nursing professionals equipped with both theory and practical skills by conducting clinical education through excellent on-campus education and securing high-quality practice hospitals.
