Chungkang College of Cultural Industries' School of Performing Arts announced that it will conduct a workshop with Odin Teatret, the Nordic Theatre Research Institute.
The School of Performing Arts at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries operates as an educational community under the motto "The school is a theater company," where art is discussed and performances are created from a contemporary perspective. It is a space where students with diverse interests nurture their dreams of becoming performing artists. The school consists of the Directing and Playwriting major, which produces and develops primary content; the Musical Acting major and Theatre and Film Acting major, which cultivate versatile actors suited for the multimedia era; and the Stage Art major (Stage Design, Lighting Design), which aesthetically and physically realizes texts.
At Chungkang School of Performing Arts, in addition to production-centered major classes that apply the knowledge acquired through theory and practice, voluntary creative activities by current students and alumni are supported.
Through programs such as CK On Stage and the Traveling Troupe Project, performances held on campus are presented at performance venues in Daehangno and various institutions and schools nationwide, providing opportunities for prospective performing artists to engage with contemporary audiences.
Moreover, students can acquire a global sensibility as performing artists through various special lectures, international workshops, and programs that allow direct participation in international events, enabling them to learn diverse performing arts styles from around the world during their studies.
The Chungkang School of Performing Arts continuously conducts various stylistic experiments on campus to explore new performance forms. As part of this effort, the upcoming workshop with Odin Teatret, the Nordic Theatre Research Institute, will be a valuable opportunity to understand Odin Teatret’s creative methods and broaden the scope of exchange. Especially since Odin Teatret is a world-renowned company known for its unique acting methods and physical expression techniques, it is expected to provide Chungkang School of Performing Arts students with profound learning and an expanded global perspective.
This workshop, held intensively over two nights and three days from December 13 to 15, 2024, will go beyond simple technical training, bringing together artists from different cultural backgrounds and students to generate new ideas and communicate through performing arts.
Additionally, it is anticipated to serve as an opportunity for Chungkang School of Performing Arts students to build a global network and develop an international sensibility, positively impacting their future careers.
The glocal project of Chungkang College of Cultural Industries' School of Performing Arts aims to cultivate global competencies and expand creative artistic sensibilities by allowing students to directly experience diverse cultures and performing arts techniques.
The global workshops held this year expose students to excellent performing arts techniques from around the world, raising awareness of cultural diversity and the importance of artistic fusion.
International workshops at Chungkang School of Performing Arts include not only the performance workshop with Odin Teatret but also the "Intensive Playwriting Workshop" by Howard Brening, an honorary professor at the University of Miami, and the Meisner Technique Workshop by Anthony Montez. The Meisner Technique Workshop focuses on enhancing emotional truthfulness in acting training, while Howard Brening’s Intensive Playwriting Workshop emphasizes strengthening creativity and technical skills necessary for playwriting.
These programs provide students with opportunities to absorb diverse artistic perspectives and techniques, enhancing their ability to communicate on the global stage and fostering growth as creators of global performing arts content in line with the vision of the School of Performing Arts.
