Co-hosted by Yangju City and the Korean Ancient Studies Association, this seminar was planned to provide a forum for the historical interpretation of the "Taebong Kingdom Mokgan" excavated from Yangju Daemosanseong last year and to reexamine Yangju Daemosanseong through this.

The academic seminar will open with a keynote lecture by Professor Baek Jong-oh, president of the Korean Ancient Studies Association, titled "The Function and Symbolism of Water Storage Facilities in Ancient Korean Fortresses, Mokgan, and Power," followed by thematic presentations in the order of ▲ Ancient Yangju in Korea: Transportation and Defense (Jeong Dong-min, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) ▲ Yangju in the Later Three Kingdoms Period: Faith and Mokgan (Lee Joon-sung, Kyungpook National University) ▲ Rituals of Ancient Korean Fortresses and Yangju Daemosanseong: Ritual Leaders and Contributions (Hwang Bo-kyung, Sejong University). In addition, the seminar will present the current project progress of Yangju Daemosanseong and the results of the 14th excavation survey conducted this year to inform citizens about the value of Yangju Daemosanseong and the "Taebong Kingdom Mokgan."

Meanwhile, the "Taebong Kingdom Mokgan" excavated during the 13th excavation survey of Yangju Daemosanseong last year is the first domestic discovery of relics from Taebong (= Later Goguryeo, 901?918), a country founded by Gung Ye (??918). Composed of a total of 123 characters, it is the mokgan with the largest number of characters found domestically, attracting significant attention from academia. Although further research is needed, the discovery of this mokgan proves that Yangju Daemosanseong held an important position on the ancient transportation route from the Three Kingdoms period to the Later Three Kingdoms period and is regarded as an important case showing that political powers existed around Yangju Daemosanseong during the Later Three Kingdoms period.

Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju City stated, “The Yangju Daemosanseong academic seminar is an opportunity to reexamine the excavation achievements of the Yangju Daemosanseong site conducted by Yangju City so far, and through this, we will strive to take a step forward as a historical and cultural city.”
