Yongin City to Remodel Jungang and Guseong Libraries... Closed from January Next Year Yongin Central Library, which will be closed entirely from January 1 next year for remodeling. After replacing outdated facilities and improving the interior and exterior walls, it will reopen in January 2026. Provided by Yongin City

Yongin Central Library, the city's first public library, opened in 1993 and is located in Yeokbuk-dong, Cheoin-gu, with a total floor area of 4,460㎡ spanning from basement level 1 to the 3rd floor. It has served as a regional hub library, but demands for environmental improvements have continued due to aging facilities, limited reading space, and the absence of an elevator. The city will invest a total of 9.21 billion KRW, including 6.06 billion KRW in national and provincial funds secured through the '2023 Public Building Green Remodeling Contest' and the 'Gyeonggi-do Public Library Construction Support Project' for the remodeling. The remodeling will involve replacing outdated mechanical equipment, improving the interior and exterior walls, installing elevators, and reorganizing spaces.

Guseong Library, located in Eonnam-dong, Giheung-gu, opened in 2007 and has a total floor area of 2,775㎡ from basement level 1 to the 3rd floor. The remodeling of Guseong Library will involve a total investment of 4.42 billion KRW, including 1 billion KRW in provincial funds secured through the 'Gyeonggi-do Public Library Construction Support Project.' The city plans to replace aging facilities and expand user reading spaces, creating an open-type complex cultural space that reflects recent trends.

To accommodate citizens who will be unable to use the two libraries during the remodeling construction, the city will operate a special lending service throughout December. During this period, the number of books that can be borrowed per person will be increased from the existing 7 to 30, and the return period will be extended up to one year. Users who wish to return books during the closure period can use unmanned return boxes or return them to other libraries within the city.

The city also plans to install smart libraries at the Yeokbuk-dong and Mabuk-dong Administrative Welfare Centers to address the blind spots in book usage caused by the library closures.
