STEPI Seeks Solutions for Science and Technology Talent Supply in the AI Era

Proposal for the Need to Revise Science and Technology Talent Policies to Meet Industrial Demand
460th STEPI Science and Technology Policy Forum Held

The Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI, President Yoon Ji-woong) will hold the 460th STEPI Science and Technology Policy Forum on the 27th at 2 p.m. at the Mozart Hall of the Seoul President Hotel under the theme "Diagnosis of Supply and Demand of Science and Technology Talent in the Generative AI Era and Discussion on Policy Measures."


In this forum, the current status of supply and demand for talent changing due to the rapid development of technologies including AI will be diagnosed, and mid- to long-term policy measures for science and technology talent to respond to these changes will be explored.


At the forum, Lee Chi-ho, STEPI Associate Research Fellow, will present a topic titled “Diagnosis of Demand Changes and Policy Measures According to AI Technology Development,” analyzing changes in the labor market due to technological advancements including AI, and based on this, propose ▲ a shift from quantitative expansion to qualitative management ▲ flexible talent development in the AI era ▲ strategies for corporate participation in talent development.


Lee Hye-seon, STEPI Associate Research Fellow, will address “Diagnosis of Expansive Technology Workforce Supply and Support Tasks,” diagnosing current issues in the supply channels of science and technology personnel and presenting directions for strengthening workforce supply monitoring and supporting competency development to secure technical talent.


The panel discussion, chaired by Professor Seok Young-chul (Hanyang University), will include participants such as Research Fellow Kim Kyung-eun (Korea Information Society Development Institute), CEO Kim Seung-il (Modu Research Institute), Team Leader Lee Jung-soo (Ministry of Science and ICT), Evangelist Jung Joo-hwan (Naver Cloud), Professor Choi Choong (Konkuk University), and Center Director Hong Sung-min (STEPI). They will share their experiences and perspectives on changes in talent supply and demand in the AI era and discuss the direction of science and technology talent policies.


Yoon Ji-woong, President of the Science and Technology Policy Institute, stated, “As the generative AI era officially begins, the demand for science and technology talent across industries is rapidly changing. Now is the golden time to comprehensively understand these changes and systematically respond, as there is currently a lack of systems to do so, making it essential to newly organize policies.”
