Semiconductor glass substrate company Absolix is seeing its parent company SKC's stock price rise following news that it will receive approximately $100 million (about 140 billion KRW) in research and development (R&D) subsidies from the U.S. government.
As of 9:44 a.m. on the 22nd, SKC was trading at 116,100 KRW, up 11,000 KRW (10.47%) from the previous trading day.
According to industry sources on the day, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced on the 21st (local time) that the Absolix consortium was selected as one of the recipients of R&D subsidies in the advanced substrate sector under the National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program (NAPMP) established by the CHIPS Act. The consortium includes over 30 partners such as big tech companies, academia, and non-profit organizations, with Absolix being the only company selected in the glass substrate field.
No Woo-ho, a researcher at Meritz Securities, said, "Being selected as a subsidy recipient means being recognized as a U.S. semiconductor supply chain company," adding, "It signifies recognition of Absolix's technological capabilities in next-generation glass substrates. Attention should be paid to the potential expansion of Absolix's glass substrate business."
