"'Autohold' Pressed but Car Moved"... Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicle Crashes into Restaurant

Police to Confirm Driver's Fault Policy

An electric vehicle stopped in Gangnam, Seoul, crashed into a restaurant building.


The Gangnam Police Station announced that at around 5:17 PM on the 21st, an electric vehicle parked in Sinsa-dong crashed into a restaurant building, injuring four pedestrians who were hit by the car and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident vehicle was a Mercedes-Benz electric car, and the driver was a woman in her 30s. It was understood that at the time, the driver was changing her shoes in the front passenger seat. There was also one passenger inside the vehicle, but the driver's seat was reportedly empty at the time of the accident.


In the police investigation, driver A stated, "I pressed the auto hold (a function that maintains the brake state when stopped), but the car moved during that time." It was reported that A was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.


The police are reviewing whether to apply charges under the Special Act on the Settlement of Traffic Accidents after confirming A's negligence.
