Director Yang Woo-seok, who directed the films 'The Attorney' (2013) and 'Steel Rain' 1 and 2 (2017-2020), returns with the family comedy 'Daegajok' set in the 1990s.
At the 'Daegajok' preview held on the afternoon of the 21st at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, Director Yang explained, "My previous works were heavy in content, but this new work is a comic human drama." He added, "It has become difficult to form families nowadays. It is not only by accumulating wealth like in the movie that families are formed. Although the form and meaning of family have changed, they have not been well addressed, so I decided to create this work." He also said, "This is a film that is essential for our society."
Actor Kim Yoon-seok plays the owner of a dumpling restaurant, and Lee Seung-gi portrays a Buddhist monk. The story revolves around the grandchildren visiting and living together with the dumpling restaurant owner (Kim Yoon-seok), whose family line was broken due to his son (Lee Seung-gi) becoming a monk. The premise is that the monk has a child through sperm donation.
Regarding his role, Kim Yoon-seok said, "He is a character full of deficiencies. I projected our flawed and weak sides onto him." He continued, "Even if there is no blood relation, the person who can embrace and accept our weak sides rather than our proud ones is ultimately family." Lee Seung-gi, who actually shaved his head for the monk role, said, "I didn't think it was difficult, but many people said it was a challenge. When I thought about another actor doing it, I realized it was a big decision."

After finishing filming 'Daegajok,' Lee Seung-gi married actress Lee Da-in in April last year and welcomed a daughter in February. He said, "There is a line, 'What is a child to parents?' I didn't understand it during filming, but now that my child is born, I finally understand. I felt warmth." He also said his feelings toward his parents changed after marriage.
He said, "Like most father-son relationships, I tend to be shy and don't talk intimately with my father," adding, "Maybe we never learned how to communicate." He continued, "As I got older, got married, and had a child, my relationship with my parents has grown closer than before. I have come to understand a parent's heart."
