Malaysian-Chinese actress Yang Ziqing (62, Yang Ziqing) revealed the reason for her divorce from her former husband, a Hong Kong tycoon.
On the 18th (local time), Yang Ziqing appeared on BBC Radio 4 in the UK and spoke about her divorce from Hong Kong fashion businessman Dixon Poon. She confessed that she divorced her ex-husband due to infertility, saying, "I felt like a failure because I couldn't have children." Previously, Yang Ziqing retired from the entertainment industry after marrying Dixon Poon in 1988 but faced a breakup in 1992.
Regarding her marriage to Dixon Poon, she explained, "I always wanted to have a family," adding, "There was somewhat a purpose in my first marriage to have children and raise the next generation." She continued, "I still love babies. It wasn't because of a lack of effort that I couldn't have children." She also said, "I consistently underwent infertility treatments but saw no results, and every time that happened, I thought, 'I have failed.' It took me a long time to accept the fact that I was infertile because it could have been a major cause of ruining my first marriage."
Yang Ziqing recalled, "Even after 10 or 20 years, I couldn't create the family my husband wanted, so divorce was an inevitable choice," adding, "Deciding not to drag that issue any longer was a very courageous act." She remains close with her ex-husband's family after the divorce, and Dixon Poon is known to have married three times and has five children.
After the divorce, Yang Ziqing began dating Jean Todt, a former racing driver and director as well as former CEO of Ferrari, in 2004. Overcoming a 17-year age gap, the couple got married last year after 19 years of dating. In January, she also shared the news of becoming a grandmother when Jean Todt's son had a child.
Meanwhile, Yang Ziqing was born in Malaysia in 1962 and debuted in the entertainment industry in 1984 through a commercial. She then actively worked as an action actress appearing in films such as "Yes, Madam," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," and "Memoirs of a Geisha." Last year, she made headlines by winning the Best Actress award at the 95th Academy Awards, becoming the first Asian actress to do so for her role in "Everything Everywhere All at Once."
