On the 21st, a Gathering for Harmony and Exchange Among World Heritage Cities
On the 21st, Yangsan City in Gyeongnam held the 29th regular meeting of the Korean World Heritage Cities Council at Haejangbogak of Tongdosa Temple in Yangsan.
The Korean World Heritage Cities Council plays an important role in uniting 31 cities that possess UNESCO World Heritage sites to cooperate in protecting, managing, and promoting sustainable development of world heritage.
At this meeting, about 100 officials from member cities attended, including Kim Yoon-cheol, Mayor of Hapcheon County and president city of the Korean World Heritage Cities Council; Shim Deok-seop, Mayor of Gochang County and vice president city; Na Dong-yeon, Mayor of Yangsan, the host city; and Kwon Ki-chang, Mayor of Andong, to discuss ways to develop world heritage.
In particular, during the meeting, Gochang County in Jeonbuk was elected as the next president city, and Andong City in Gyeongbuk as the vice president city, serving as the council’s next executives. They held in-depth discussions on external development plans of the council through strengthening friendly exchanges and cooperation among member cities.
Mayor Na Dong-yeon said, “I am honored to hold the regular meeting of the Korean World Heritage Cities Council in Yangsan City, which possesses various national heritages along with the world heritage Tongdosa Temple,” and added, “I hope this meeting will pave a stronger path of cooperation among member cities.”
Yangsan City plans to continue enhancing the value of world heritage and expanding the network among member cities to pursue diverse cultural cooperation.
