Ji-yeon and Hwang Jae-gyun, Divorce Confirmed After Mediation Ends

Settlement Reached in Divorce Mediation at Seoul Family Court

Actress Jiyeon, formerly of the group T-ara, and professional baseball player Hwang Jae-gyun have finalized their divorce.

According to multiple media reports on the 21st, Jiyeon and Hwang Jae-gyun reached a divorce settlement at the Seoul Family Court the day before. Their legal representatives attended the court to discuss the mediation, and it was reported that the divorce was ultimately confirmed.

Earlier, Jiyeon's side stated on the 5th of last month through their legal representative, "Both parties were unable to overcome their differences, and after a period of separation, they agreed to divorce and submitted a divorce mediation application to the Seoul Family Court to proceed with the process."

Later, Jiyeon expressed, "I am sorry to greet you with unfortunate news," adding, "We proceeded with the mediation process for divorce by mutual agreement, and I will greet you with a better image in the future."

The two were married in December 2022. Afterwards, they shared their newlywed life through YouTube. However, in June, a baseball commentator’s voice saying during a mid-roll advertisement, "Did you know? Hwang Jae-gyun got divorced," was exposed on YouTube, sparking the first rumors of their divorce.

At that time, the commentator apologized for mentioning their private life, but no official statement from the parties involved was released, which heightened public interest. Eventually, four months after the controversy, Jiyeon and Hwang Jae-gyun proceeded with the divorce mediation process.

Meanwhile, Jiyeon debuted in 2009 through T-ara. Since then, she has expanded her activities to films, dramas, and variety shows. Hwang Jae-gyun joined the Hyundai Unicorns in 2006 and played for the Lotte Giants. In 2017, he also played for the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball in the United States. He is currently active with the KT Wiz.
