Namdong-gu, Incheon recently announced on the 21st that it has completed the 'Specialized Street Creation Project' to create a pleasant and distinctive urban landscape on five roads, including Cheongneung-daero.
Specialized streets refer to street landscapes where roadside trees are pruned into sculptural shapes such as squares and cones to create a unique appearance.
The project was carried out with a budget of 200 million KRW, including subsidies from Incheon City, in areas including Cheongneung-daero, Inha-ro, Seongmal-ro, Yesul-ro 152beon-gil, and Inha-ro 507beon-gil. A total of 897 tall honey locust trees along the target sections were pruned into neat square shapes to provide a sense of unity and sculptural beauty.
In particular, the Cheongneung-daero section crossing the Namdong National Industrial Complex had long been known for its dark and outdated image. Through the specialized street creation project, the dark street landscape was brightened and tidied up, and the growing environment of the roadside trees was also improved.
The district office expects that, in addition to improving the urban aesthetics, the pruning considering the surrounding environment will secure sufficient visibility, thereby contributing to improvements in traffic and pedestrian environments.
Park Jong-hyo, the district mayor, said, "Through the creation of specialized streets, we will widely promote the sculptural beauty of the roadside trees, which are the face of the roads, to residents, and we will continue to make greater efforts to create distinctive and beautiful tree-lined streets in the future."
