Demolition from 10 PM on the 24th to 6 AM on the 25th
Use detour road from Mokmin-ro to Daehak-ro direction
Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk will complete the demolition of the pedestrian overpass near Nambu Elementary School from 10 PM on the 24th to 6 AM on the 25th.
Earlier, on the 14th of last month, the first phase of demolition work removed the stairs facing the main gate of Nambu Elementary School.
The pedestrian overpass being demolished saw a sharp decline in usage due to a decrease in the number of students and an increase in vehicle use. The city has been operating a smart crosswalk as a replacement since the 12th.
This demolition project involves a steel structure weighing 41 tons and a budget of 65 million KRW. The demolition work of the overpass located between Nambu Yukgeori and Gyeongbuk College will be concentrated at night considering residents' safety and traffic congestion.
During the construction period, the road will be completely closed, and the city will set up a temporary detour road from Mokmin-ro to Daehak-ro 86beon-gil to distribute vehicle traffic and minimize traffic inconvenience.
After the demolition, pedestrians will use the newly operated crosswalk. The city expects to enhance pedestrian safety and improve mobility convenience through an enhanced signal system.
Mayor Park Nam-seo said, “This demolition will transform Nambu Yukgeori into a safer and more pleasant space,” adding, “We will prioritize citizens' convenience and complete the construction swiftly.”
