The senior employment project has become established as an individual law with the enforcement of the 'Act on Senior Employment and Social Activity Support' (abbreviated as the Senior Employment Act) starting November 1, 2024, which has heightened social interest.

Yeoju City is entering a super-aged society (elderly population 26.3%) with a rapidly increasing elderly population. In this situation, Yeoju's senior employment project has been steadily expanding since 2004 to help seniors lead active later years and establish themselves as important members of society. In particular, the number of participants exceeded 3,000 in 2022, and the project is preparing to target 4,148 participants in 2025.

During the performance report session, it was emphasized that the senior employment project has achieved positive outcomes such as income supplementation, economic stability, health improvement, and enhancement of social relationships. However, challenges for improvement were also raised, including financial burdens due to increased participation, weakened profitability of community project groups, and the need to adjust participant salary levels to realistic standards.

Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju said, “The senior employment project is an important policy that returns the experience and wisdom of seniors to society and supports a vibrant old age. It can also positively impact local economic revitalization as an important consumer group through economic activities and income generation.” He added, “Through efficient organization and operation of project groups, I hope seniors will paint their second youth with happiness, healthy old age, and a sense of accomplishment.”
