NBS Poll
64% Still Support Special Prosecutor Law for Kim Geon-hee
49% Find Lee Jae-myung's Public Official Election Act Appropriate, 41% Disagree
President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration showed a significant upward trend. It is interpreted that the national address, overseas visits, and the guilty verdict on Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, for violating the Public Official Election Act contributed to the recovery of the approval rating.
According to the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted from the 18th to the 20th by Embrain Public, K-stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research (a nationwide telephone survey of 1,002 men and women aged 18 and over using mobile phone interviews; the sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate is 16.7%), President Yoon's approval rating (evaluation of national administration) rose 8 percentage points from two weeks ago (the first week of November) to 27%. Just two weeks ago, it recorded 19%, the lowest since his inauguration, but it rebounded to the high 20% range within two weeks. Negative evaluations also dropped by 6 percentage points to 68%.
However, regarding the direction of national policy, the evaluation that it is on the right track increased by only 4 percentage points from the previous survey to 28%. The opinion that it is on the wrong track remained the same at 65% as two weeks ago.
Support for the special prosecution law concerning First Lady Kim Geon-hee also remained high. 64% of respondents expressed support for the special prosecution law on Mrs. Kim, while 26% opposed it. This is not significantly different from the 65% support recorded in the public opinion survey in the fourth week of September.
Regarding the sentence of one year imprisonment with two years probation given to Lee Jae-myung for violating the Public Official Election Act, 49% of respondents said it was an "appropriate judgment," while 41% said it was a "wrong judgment." Supporters of the Democratic Party and the Innovation Party for Justice showed high rates of "wrong judgment" opinions at 77% and 67%, respectively, whereas supporters of the People Power Party and non-affiliated voters showed "appropriate judgment" opinions at 89% and 50%, respectively.
In party support, the Democratic Party recorded 31%, the People Power Party 30%, the Innovation Party for Justice 9%, and the Reform Party 3%.
