Pocheon-si Designates Eunha Apartment No. 5 Multi-family Housing as a No-Smoking Area

Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) designated Eunha Apartment in Pocheon-dong as a non-smoking area for multi-family housing on the 20th.

This designation of the non-smoking area targeted two common living spaces, the corridors and stairs, and was carried out with the consent of 52.6% of the household heads. The city installed no-smoking signs and information boards in the designated area to inform residents of the non-smoking zone.

The designation of non-smoking areas in multi-family housing is possible under the "National Health Promotion Act" when more than half of the resident households agree. It applies to some or all facilities such as corridors, stairs, elevators, and underground parking lots of the multi-family housing.

The city plans to conduct promotional and guidance activities for the next three months and will impose fines for smoking in the non-smoking area starting from February 20, 2025. The fine is set at 50,000 KRW for the first violation.

The Director of the Health Policy Division of Pocheon City said, "With the designation of the 5th non-smoking area in multi-family housing in Pocheon City, we hope that the non-smoking culture spreads throughout the community and the smoking rate decreases," and added, "We ask for the active interest and participation of citizens regarding the non-smoking areas in multi-family housing."
