Autonomous Public High School 2.0 refers to schools that innovate their curriculum by collaborating with various local entities such as local governments, universities, and companies, utilizing regional resources.

Autonomous Public High School 2.0 operates its curriculum based on the autonomy level of existing autonomous private high schools and specialized high schools. It introduces an open principal recruitment system when appointing principals and allows up to 50% of the teaching staff to be hired through invitation. Additionally, it is designated as a research school by the superintendent at the request of the Ministry of Education to carry out various research projects.

The three selected high schools will receive support of 200 million KRW annually from the Ministry of Education and the Office of Education for the next five years. Based on agreements signed with local governments, regional universities, companies, research institutes, and public institutions, they are expected to lead the improvement of regional educational capabilities by operating distinctive educational models that reflect the diverse local circumstances, characteristics, and demands, utilizing the human and material resources of the partner organizations.

Furthermore, Yeongcheon High School, selected as the military children recruitment type Autonomous Public High School 2.0, will receive additional financial and program support from the Ministry of National Defense. It will form a consortium with Hanmin High School as a ‘Military Children School’ to operate specialized curricula and programs tailored to the characteristics and needs of military children.

Meanwhile, in this 3rd contest by the Ministry of Education, 14 schools nationwide were selected, and Gyeongbuk achieved the remarkable feat of producing selected schools in both the regional innovation type and the military children recruitment type. Additionally, Gyeongbuk, along with Gyeonggi-do, Chungbuk, and Jeonnam, succeeded in having selected schools in all three contests held this year.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to provide administrative and financial support and consulting so that Autonomous Public High School 2.0 can establish itself as a regional hub school and become a center for enhancing regional educational capabilities and nurturing talent.

Im Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, said, “This achievement is thanks to the efforts and passion of the entire educational community who have worked to revitalize regional education and improve conditions,” and added, “We will actively support the selected schools to create excellent cases through innovative and autonomous educational models and to spread these to general high schools.”
