The Dangjin City Council's History and Culture Research Group in Chungnam held a final policy research presentation on June 19th in the council's main conference room, under the theme of "Urban Space Planning for the Victorybong Park Area in Dangjin."
More than 30 people attended the presentation, including Representative Sim Eesu, research group members, experts, local residents, and officials from Dangjin City Hall.
The event featured the presentation of research findings, followed by a Q&A session on practical implementation measures and in-depth discussions on strategies for local revitalization.
NEEG Architecture, the research team responsible for the policy study, proposed key tasks based on an analysis of the historical and cultural value of Dangjin's old downtown. These included symbolizing Dangjin Eupseong and revitalizing Victorybong Park, utilizing the Dangjincheon riverside area, and creating a specialized cultural street.
In particular, the strategy emphasized reconstructing Dangjin Eupseong as a hub for historical and cultural resources, while simultaneously promoting local economic and cultural growth through resident-participatory cultural programs and youth community spaces.
Director Kwon Sookhee stated, "We have developed measures to highlight local characteristics and improve residents' living conditions based on the historical and cultural assets of Dangjin Eupseong and the Dangjincheon area."
She added, "It is especially necessary to pursue urban regeneration in a direction that supports new cultural and economic activities, such as youth community spaces and night markets."
Representative Sim Eesu remarked, "Symbolizing Dangjin Eupseong and revitalizing Victorybong Park are important tasks that go beyond urban maintenance, as they restore Dangjin's identity and improve the quality of life for local residents. Based on the research results, we will share them with the relevant city departments and continue to pay close attention and make efforts at the council level."
Meanwhile, the city council's History and Culture Research Group has been working to develop regeneration plans for the old downtown area centered on Dangjin Eupseong, a historical and cultural asset, and the currently developing Victorybong Park, through benchmarking advanced cases and research projects.
The results of the study will be used to make policy proposals to Dangjin City in December, with the aim of discussing strategies for the historical and cultural development of the Dangjin Eupseong area.
