Special Vehicle Project Case Exhibition and Information Sharing
Hyundai Motor Company has launched the chassis cab model of its electric commercial vehicle ST1. The chassis cab model consists only of the vehicle's frame (chassis) and the passenger compartment (cab).
On the 21st, Hyundai announced that it held an Upfitters Day event in Cheonan, Chungnam, the previous day to commemorate the launch of the chassis cab.
The ST1 chassis cab is considered more efficient compared to the traditional method of removing the cargo box behind the passenger compartment to carry out special bodywork. Another advantage is the installation of a 'plug and play' connector that allows control of the vehicle's power and functions.
At the event, Hyundai collaborated with special body manufacturers to share various special body project cases based on the ST1 and exhibited actual vehicles such as a mobile charging vehicle, a fire department emergency rescue vehicle, and a refrigerated high-top.
Additionally, when manufacturing special body vehicles using electric chassis cab vehicles, the process required for certification by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy was explained. Support details such as the technical data portal were introduced, followed by a Q&A session.
Hyundai operates a technical data portal that provides vehicle manufacturing manuals containing technical references necessary for developing special body vehicles. It also supports various information and documents required for certification and responds to inquiries from companies.
A Hyundai official said, "The ST1 chassis cab will be used in various fields, not only for cargo but also for demand-responsive transportation." He added, "We will generously support special body manufacturers to showcase diverse special body vehicles utilizing the ST1 chassis cab."
