Discounts on Spinach, Seasonal Seafood, and Winter Snacks Offered
Emart announced on the 21st that from the 22nd to the 28th, it will sell the first winter strawberries of the year and early winter seasonal foods at discounted prices.
First, Emart will sell one pack of 500g ‘Seolhyang’ strawberries at 17,900 KRW at stores nationwide. Strawberries shipped early in the season are the highest in sweetness and quality throughout the entire season.
Emart has worked to procure strawberries as quickly and stably as possible by cooperating with Korea’s representative strawberry producing regions such as Sancheong, Hadong, Hapcheon, and Nonsan. They secured additional new production areas and enhanced price competitiveness through direct transactions with the production sites.
This year, strawberry shipments were delayed compared to previous years. Although some stores started selling winter strawberries from mid-October, the expansion to all stores was not possible due to the heatwave. In response, Emart is conducting a test sale of the European strawberry variety ‘Superstar.’ This is to establish a system that can provide strawberries to consumers early despite climate changes. Sales began on the 30th of last month at three Emart locations: Wangsimni, Jayang, and Yeoksam.
The volume of smart farm strawberries, which can be grown stably year-round, is also expected to increase. Currently, smart farm strawberries account for about 8% of total Emart strawberry sales, and as the smart farm supply gradually increases, it is expected to expand to the 12% range this year.
For early winter seasonal foods, Emart will sell spinach, fresh oysters, and mackerel. The spinach is winter open-field spinach grown while exposed to sea breeze, which gives it a sweet flavor, cultivated in Yeongdeok, Namhae, Hansando, and other areas. When accumulating SSG Points, one bunch (about 300g) can be purchased at 2,880 KRW, approximately 27% off the regular price. Despite poor spinach yields this year due to frequent rain, Emart prepared about 200,000 bunches for a week’s supply for this event.
Seasonal seafood is also discounted up to 40% when accumulating SSG Points. In collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, ‘Traceable Bagged Oysters (300g, domestic)’ are offered at 7,980 KRW, a 30% discount, and ‘Domestic Fresh Mackerel’ is sold at 3,184 KRW (large) and 2,384 KRW (medium), a 20% discount. ‘Domestic Blue Crab (thawed, 100g)’ is available at 980 KRW, a 30% discount, and ‘Namhaean Red Scallops’ can be purchased at 8,800 KRW per kg, a 40% discount.
Popular winter snacks, the ‘Samlip Fermented Rice Flour Steamed Buns 8-pack (720g)’ in four varieties, are also sold at about 10% off the regular price: 7,880 KRW for red bean paste flavor and 8,380 KRW for the other three flavors (red bean & sweet potato, red bean & pizza, red bean & vegetable).
An Emart official said, “As the full onset of winter cold arrives this week, we hope customers take care of their health with the nutritious seasonal foods sold at Emart,” and added, “Emart will continue to do its best to ensure customers can always purchase fresh seasonal foods at reasonable prices.”
