On the 20th, Gyeonggi Province held a certificate awarding ceremony for the ‘2024 Gyeonggi Family-Friendly Good Workplaces’ at the Gwanggyo Hall of the Gyeonggi Institute of Economic Science Promotion.
About 200 people attended the event, including Kim Mi-seong, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, Moon Hyeong-geun, Chair of the Women, Family, and Lifelong Education Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Je Jin-su, Director of the Future Growth Division of the Gyeonggi Institute of Economic Science Promotion, and representatives of certified companies.
The ‘Gyeonggi Family-Friendly Good Workplaces’ certification project aims to create a family-friendly work environment by discovering and certifying exemplary companies operating family-friendly systems in the province and then supporting them with various benefits (57 types).
In April, a total of 249 companies in the province participated in the certification application amid high interest. After document screening, on-site inspections, and certification committee deliberations, a total of 81 companies were finally selected. Selected companies receive a certificate, certification plaque, and certification mark in the name of the Governor of Gyeonggi Province.
The evaluation criteria include △ operation status of family-friendly systems △ CEO’s interest and willingness to implement △ company stability △ employee satisfaction, among others.
Newly certified company Punglim Muyak Co., Ltd. in Hwaseong City has introduced a 35-hour workweek system at its headquarters and R&D division, and provides separate paid leave such as company-wide Refresh Day (one paid day off quarterly) and Family Day (one paid day off monthly) for production workers. In addition, under the principle that ‘employees must be happy for the company to grow,’ they are practicing family-friendly management through flexible working hours, workations, child care leave, bridge holidays, encouragement of long vacations, and more.
Starting this year, the province has increased support funds for newly certified small and medium enterprises from 2 million KRW to 5 million KRW through the Population and Low Birthrate Task Force and the Population Talk Talk Committee, and provides various benefits from 57 items operated by 12 institutions, including preferential support for SME development funds.
Next year, new benefits will be expanded, including the introduction of support funds for re-certified companies and the opening of a dedicated section on the recruitment information site. To promote the reduction of working hours system, support for 0.5 & 0.75 jobs (working hours reduced by 4 to 6 hours per day) will also be pursued for certified companies.
The certification period for new certifications is three years from this year until 2027, and if selected as a re-certification institution afterward, the qualification can be maintained for an additional three years.
Kim Mi-seong, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, “We thank the companies that have taken the lead in creating a family-friendly work environment to overcome the low birthrate crisis and build a better future amid difficult economic conditions. Gyeonggi Province will strive to spread a family-friendly organizational culture through policies that more residents can feel, such as 0.5 & 0.75 jobs for work-life balance in 2025.”
